Before going to Puerto Rico, one of the things I knew I wanted to do was to visit its waterfalls. I was lucky to make it to 2, actually 3 (since Gozalandia has 2 waterfalls).
Waterfalls are amazing. The water is usually cold but so refreshing and nice to swim in after you’ve been in salt water at the beach for a few days. Most of them are in the middle of forests so you get to do a bit of hiking and be around beautiful green. I had been to a few waterfalls in my travels, but Puerto Rico was the first time I got to climb one, jump off and play on a rope swing.
Here is a LINK to Google Maps that shows you the route we took to get to Gozalandia Waterfalls from Rincon. The falls is located in San Sebastián and it took about an hour to get there. My host, Alexis Rivera, tells me that this place used to be wilder before. When we were there, we were asked to park in a specific area pay a small sum, and there were a few people since it was a holiday. But it started to rain and everyone pretty much left. So we ended up having the place for ourselves. Who cares about the rain when you are getting wet anyway?! The only inconvenience for some might be the muddy paths but hey – it’s all part of being outside in the wild and having fun.
Here are some websites with articles I found to best on Gozalandia Falls. They’ll give you more details on what to see or expect:
Our episode – PUERTO RICO with Alex Rivera – shows the experience of being there from up-close.
I hope you enjoy it.
