Nicaragua- Day One

Only once I woke up could I begin to have my first impressions of  the country which I will be calling home for the next 10 days.

The trip started with a welcoming breakfast, and a food tour with the chef at Camino Real Hotel.

He introduced me to a couple of new fruits, their delicious pupusas and – gallo pinto. Yes, people here eat rice and beans for breakfast!

I thought we would be getting either a small regular vehicle or an ugly standard SUV rental but my parents surprised me with a great pick-up truck!

We started our drive down to Popoyo Beach Lodge at around 2pm, and did not get to our final destination until sunset. The drive took four hours with a couple of stops on the way. The scenery on the way – colorful, beautiful nature, bumpy and a drive through a few streams.
